Office/Remote Location: Room 225
Join the Department of Sociology for a lecture by Dr. Carol Queen, Good Vibrations staff sexologist and curator of the Antique Vibrator Museum, as well as director of the Center for Sex & Culture in San Francisco, and all around amazing sex positive educator and speaker. Dr. Queen will present on the history of her favorite "socially camouflaged technology" the vibrator.
From a doctors office implement, where it was utilized from the 1880s onward to treat the now-defunct "female trouble" called hysteria, to a common household consumable promising "health, vigor, and beauty" -- not to mention a star turn in early-20th-century stag movies and the superstar of the women's sex toy revolution -- the vibrator has had one of the most fascinating careers of any consumer product. Come learn all about the vibrator's path from doctor's little helper to feminist icon for all who believe that, "if you want something done right, do it yourself"!
This lecture is free and open to the public.
