Opening Day at the Barrick

Opening Day! New Exhibitions! The Award Winning Documentary HERB & DOROTHY! Activities for All!   

The UNLV Marjorie Barrick will reopen with updated lighting and a new exhibitions featuring works from The Dorothy and Herbert Vogel Collection. This collection includes the work by such notables as Stephen Antonakos, Neil Jenney, Lynda Benglis, Lucio Pozzi, Edda Renouf, Bettina Werner and Richard Tuttle.

The award-winning documentary, HERB & DOROTHY, by filmmaker Megumi Sasaki, will be playing in the Barrick to accompany the exhibition. The film tells the extraordinary story of the Vogels.

 

Also on display: 

 

The Kent Bicentennial Portfolio: Spirit of Independence contains lithographs and screen prints by well known artists including: Alexander Calder, Alex Katz, Ed Ruscha, Robert Indiana, Colleen Browning, and Marisol Escobar. The works were created in response to the question,”What does independence mean to me?” 

 

"Pre-Columbian Sacrifice: The Burden of the Elite

This student-produced exhibition explores the central themes of ritual sacrifice, feasting, blood letting, and the ancient ballgame using artifacts from the Dr. Michael C. and Mannetta Braunstein Collection of Pre-Columbian Art. 

 

Fun Activities!

 

Art Bar

Make your own "Found Object Collage" inspired by Stephen Antonakos "Untitled Greek Travel Collages". Bring found objects to donate to the Art Bar or use some of ours. Glue and paper provided. Take your collages home or exhibit them in the lobby. 

 

Contour Drawing

The Barrick will provide supplies for contour drawing. Many of the works in the exhibition feature LINE as the main element. Take your drawings home or exhibit them in the lobby.

Admission is free

Museum Hours:
Mon. - Fri.: 9 a.m.–5 p.m., Thur. until 8 p.m.
Sat.: Noon–5 p.m.
Closed Sundays and state and federal holidays.

Suggested contribution:

    $5 for adults
    $2 for adults 62 and older
