Please join the College of Liberal Arts in "From One Desert Society to Another: Archaeology and Community at Umm el-Jimal, Jordan and Springs Preserve, Las Vegas" a lecture by Bert deVries, professor, History and Archaeology, Calvin College
The archaeological study at Umm el-Jimal has revealed a creative society in the semi-arid landscape of Roman to early Islamic Jordan. While these ancient Jordanians flourished due to clever water management, a contemporary community of Native Americans took similar advantage of sparse water supplies in Las Vegas’ Springs Preserve and it's vicinity. This lecture compares how the presentation of these ancient sites enhances local heritage and serves the modern communities of Jordan and Nevada.
This event is free and open to the public.
