Now in its twelfth year, this annual academic conference titled this year as "Beyond Convergence: Mobile, Social, and Virtual Media" provides a scholarly forum for the presentation of theory, research, and practice related to media convergence. Projects addressing virtually any area of journalism, technology, and media convergence may be submitted, with special consideration offered for studies based in theory, social media, mobile technologies, and virtual media.

Technology continues to impact journalism and other media industries, as an influx of mobile computing technologies, social media, and virtual worlds has changed both their landscapes and daily practices. These changes are evident in consumer behavior, media organizational structure, and media routines. More than ever, scholars need to examine these changes and their impacts across the media landscape, addressing how they impact the training of journalists, the practice of journalism, theoretical conceptions of media, new organizational studies, and next-generation techniques for integrating these media in the newsroom.

The conference opening reception will be on Thurs., Oct. 24, 7 p.m.
