Anthropology Colloquium on Museum Work: Arthur Wolf

The department of anthropology presents "Museum Work as Public Anthropology: A Career Outside the Academy," a talk by Arthur H. Wolf, principal, WOLF Consulting.

Not everyone who loves anthropology in all of its guises works within an academic department. Thousands of anthropology grads practice in venues outside the academy, employing the precepts of tolerance, respect for elders, curiosity about the past and future, ability to listen and empathize with others, systems analysis, and use of scientific methodologies to advance the contexts within which they work. Art Wolf’s training and experiences in anthropology have informed and guided his career as a curator, director, executive, and trustee of respected organizations in New Mexico, Nevada, Montana, Oregon and Arizona. The journey from interest in archaeology and material culture to the histories of communities and the evolution of government policies including repatriation and native sovereignty has led him to current work in service to native communities and advocacy for historic preservation and environmental causes. Since 2003 he has been an independent professional, consulting with over 60 organizations ranging from tribal museums to local, regional, national and international institutions.
