AAAS Conference

UNLV will host approximately 300 people at the 94th annual American Association for the Advancement of Science-Pacific Division (AAAS) conference June 16-19.

The meeting will cover a broad range of scientific topics, including desert, water, and climate issues while others will explore cancer research, science and feeling in the arts, STEM education, and more.

The following plenary sessions are free and open to the public:

  • June 16
    6:30 p.m., Student Union theatre
    Panel discussion - Scientific Publishing: Where Are We, and Where Are We Going?

 

  • June 17
    12:15 p.m., Student Union Room 208A

Las Vegas: Sustainable? a talk given by Dr. Robert E. Lang, co-director of Brookings Mountain West and professor of sociology at UNLV

 

  • June 18
    12:15 p.m., Student Union Room 208A

New frontiers of Cancer Research, a talk by Dr. Rafael Malagoli Rocha, department of pathology, Hospital AC Camargo, Sao Paulo, Brazil

 

  • June 19
    12:15 p.m., Student Union theatre

The Incredible Contributions of Nikola Tesla, a talk by Dr. Michael Pravica, associate professor of physics, UNLV

 

AAAS is the largest private scientific organization in the world. They publish the prestigious weekly journal Science. The Pacific Division of AAAS includes Nevada, California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Alaska, and Hawaii. Science professors and students form Arizona also will be in attendance because the Arizona-Nevada Academy of Sciences is meeting jointly with the AAAS-Pacific Division.

Admission Information: 

Attendance at the plenary sessions is free and open to the public.

Attendance at the technical sessions (all in the Student Union) requires registration.

The registration cost is $125 for the entire meeting. K-14 teachers can register for half price: $62.50. Students and those who are unemployed can register for $50. One-day registration is $85.
