A replica of the H-1 aircraft, designed by Howard Hughes and Richard Palmer, is suspended from the high ceiling of the Great Hall in the Thomas Beam Engineering Building. The H-1 set a world speed record in 1935, when Hughes flew it in the skies over southern California and reached speeds in excess of 352 miles per hour.
