Dr. Tod Fitzpatrick, baritone, is a native of California. He earned his Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance from Chapman University. His Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees are from the University of Southern California where he received the Marilyn Horne Voice Scholarship. He was a vocal fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center and at the Verbier Music Festival in Switzerland. Dr. Fitzpatrick performed in San Francisco Opera’s Merola Opera Program and studied at the Britten-Pears School for Advanced Musical Studies in England. He was also a National Association of Teachers of Singing intern at Ithaca College in New York. Before moving to Nevada, Dr. Fitzpatrick served as Director of Vocal Studies at Christopher Newport University in Virginia. He currently serves as Assistant Professor of Music at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and remains active as a performer and clinician. He has been a soloist for many distinguished performing organizations around the United States. Some of these ensembles include the Virginia Symphony, Virginia Opera, the Virginia Beach Symphony, the Virginia Choral Society, the Virginia Cantata Chorus, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Opera Pacific, the Los Angeles Mozart Orchestra, the Utah Festival Opera Company, the Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra, the San Bernardino Symphony Orchestra, the Southern Arizona Symphony Orchestra, the Antelope Valley Symphony Orchestra, the Long Beach Bach Festival, the San Luis Obispo Mozart Festival, Long Beach Opera, and L.A. Opera where he was a resident artist for three years. His more notable operatic roles include Belcore in L’elisir d’amore, Dr. Malatesta in Don Pasquale, Guglielmo in Così fan Tutte, Papageno in Die Zauberflöte, Count Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro, Demetrius in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Tarquinius in The Rape of Lucretia,and Sid in Albert Herring. On the concert stage he has performed such works as Bach’s St. John Passion, Handel’s Alexander’s Feast, Beethoven’s Mass in C, the Brahms Requiem, the Fauré Requiem, Vaughan Williams’ Five Mystical Songs, the Duruflé Requiem, Britten’s Cantata Misericordium, and the United States West Coast premiere of Britten’s The World of the Spirit. He recently returned from a European tour with the Virginia Symphony Chorus and the Brno State Philharmonic where he recorded Dvorák’s Mass in D. He has recently premiered several new works for voice: California composer Deborah Kavasch’s Oh Captain, My Captain! and Allan Blank’s Four Walt Whitman Settings. Additionally, he premiered and subsequently recorded Tout Entière by the Scottish composer Jennifer Barker. As a teacher, his students have performed with such professional organizations as the Virginia Opera, the Virginia Chorale, and the Virginia Symphony Chorus and won awards or been advanced to the State and Regional NATS Voice Competitions, the Annapolis Opera Voice competition, and the Leontyne Price Vocal Competition in addition to others. His students have also been featured at a variety summer festivals including the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria. Dr. Fitzpatrick is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing. He frequently gives classes and recitals at various American universities and conservatories. Some of these schools include William Jewell College, Idaho State University, and the University of Missouri, Kansas City Conservatory of Music. |
