Archaeological Sites, Surveys and Field Schools


The UNLV Anthropology Department has conducted numerous excavations, surveys and field schools. The list below contains a partial summary of the excavations, field schools and surveys conducted by the department and of the collections managed by the department.

Several of these projects are described in detail in the links provided on the Collections men to the left.

The Steve Perkins Site was excavated by the UNLV Field School in the summers of 1970, 1971 and 1972. The Steve Perkins site was occupied by the Virgin Anasazi and Basket Maker III from 650 AD during the first occupation, up to 1150 AD in the second occupation.
The Adam 2 sites were excavated from 1982 to 1984.
The Ash Meadows sites is a group of 14 sites that were excavated between 1969 and 1971 in the Amargosa Valley.
The 8 Yamashita sites are located in the Moapa Valley and were excavated from 1989 to 1991.
The Berger Site was excavated from 1970 - 1973.
The Muddy River Survey took place in 1973.
The Paradise Valley Survey took place in 1972.
The Pueblo Point excavations were conducted between 1973 to 1975
The New St. Joseph site was excavated in 1994 and 1996-1997
