Parking Lots Impacted by Debate
On Thursday, November 15, 2007 the University will be hosting the Democratic
Presidential Candidate Debate at the Cox Pavilion. This event will attract
a sizable number of individuals to our campus including many members of
the media. As a result, parking will be impacted around the Thomas and Mack
Center and in the lots along Maryland Parkway. Below is a list of those
lots affected to allow you the opportunity to effectively plan ahead for
the day.
Naples Lot (northeast of the Campus Services Building)
This lot will be open to faculty/staff and student parking up until 11:00
a.m., at which time a portion of the lot will be held for media vehicles.
White Lot (south of the Campus Services Building)
The eastern 1/3 or first five bays of parking will be reserved the entire
day to assure availability for attendees. Faculty/staff of the Campus
Services Building and general attendees will be admitted to the remainder
of the lot. There should be adequate student parking availability throughout
the day.
Black VIP Lot (south of the Thomas and Mack Center)
The Black VIP area will be closed the entire day of the event. Once the
lot is closed and restricted, only intended individuals with the proper
credentials will be admitted.
Black Lot (south of the Thomas and Mack Center)
This lot will be available for student parking the entire day until full.
Overflow parking should proceed to the White Lot (south of the Campus
Services Building).
Red Lot (west of the new Student Recreation Building)
This area will be held for student parking the entire day. Space in this
area is always limited.
Lots D and U (along Maryland Parkway)
Lot D will be open to faculty/staff permit holders. Students parking
in Lot U will be restricted starting at 1:00 p.m. Event attendees will
be admitted on a fill-in basis throughout the day.
Visitor Lot (Harmon and Maryland Parkway)
This lot would be closed to general parking the entire day and held for
specific individuals attending the events.
Cottage Grove Parking Garage (Cottage Grove Avenue)
Most attendees going to the Watch Party at the Student Union are encouraged
to park in the Cottage Grove Parking Garage, as this is the location
that will provide the best availability and is a reasonable walking
distance from the event.
Lot N Metered Area (north of the Thomas and Mack Center)
The metered portion of this lot will be held for media starting at 11:00
a.m.
Additional Areas
The parking along the fence leading from Tarkanian Rd. up the access
road to the Thomas and Mack Center, and a portion of the parking lots
northeast of the Thomas and Mack Center, and west of the Classroom
Building Complex, will be closed due to security requirements.
Alternative Parking
Additional parking will be available in the Cottage Grove parking Garage
for those individuals wishing to avoid the parking and traffic challenges.
It is suggested that you arrive early, as this facility does fill up
periodically.
