UNLV partners with the Volunteer Center of Southern Nevada on various projects during the nationwide event. The day is meant to empower millions of Americans to unite in a common mission to improve the lives of others.
Math and Science Education Excellence Award
The College of Sciences awards an individual who exhibits outstanding educational activities in area education.
Mathematics and Literacy Professional Development Project
The Mathematics and Literacy Professional Development Project trains Clark County School District teachers to be leaders in literacy. The project is led by the department of curriculum and instruction and is funded through the Nevada Collaborative Teaching Improvement Program.
MGM Resorts International Teacher of the Game
MGM Resorts International Teacher of the Game Recognition Program is a partnership with MGM Resorts International, CCSD School-Community Partnership Program, Silver State Schools Credit Union, and 8 News NOW, where one local teacher is honored at each home men's basketball game.
MLK Day of Service
MLK Day answers Martin Luther King Jr.’s call for people from all walks of life to work together to provide solutions to our most pressing national problems. The Office of Civic Engagement and Diversity partners with community agencies for this event on the third Saturday of each January.
Mojave Max Project
The Mojave Max Education Project is an enhanced educational experience coordinated by the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. College interns and volunteers from the community are trained and placed in Clark County schools to teach students about the endangered desert tortoise. UNLV students are eligible to receive one to three credits (BIO 492), or participate as a volunteer. Graduate credit (BIO 730A) is also possible.
