Programs & Partnerships

From its birth, UNLV has maintained a symbiotic relationship with the city of Las Vegas and the surrounding areas. Each has prospered and reaped benefits from the economic and social growth of the region.

Today, the region is confronting the challenges of urban growth.

Social justice, sustainability, health care delivery, and economic and cultural diversity, and access to higher education are tearing at the region's moral and social fabric.

In response, the university — with more than 100 community programs — is forming new partnerships and improving access to social services. It's also tacking Nevada's lack of a higher-educated workforce head-on by initiating outreach activities — like UNLV's Adopt-A-School program — to introduce the valley's low-income students to the power of higher education.

The university has also joined forces with The Lincy Institute to conduct and support research that focuses on improving Nevada’s health care, education, and social services. In addition, UNLV has formed a partnership with the Brookings Institution to create Brookings Mountain West — a program to conduct research and provide policy recommendations to engineer sustainable, productive, and inclusive growth for the five "Mountain Megas" in the Intermountain West region.

UNLV is also spearheading research initiatives in solar energy, urban sustainability, and helping companies move their discoveries and inventions to the marketplace. For more information, visit the The Division of Research and Economic Development.
