WELCOME (List of members present)

Dottie welcomed everyone and introduced Dr. Harmon, Exec. Assoc. Dean of the Dental School.

Dr. Harman gave an overview of the Dental School and some of the misconceptions that people have.  He mentioned that he appreciates all the classified staff and what they do.  The school has several programs but they are all under the same school.  DMD is the entry level degree to the program.  Once the student completes this they can go out and treat patients; DMD & DDS have all the rights and privileges.  The acceptance number of students has gone up drastically.  They graduate three classes and have 260 chairs and have seen 4,200 patients.  They also have specialists that work at the school.  The facility is “state of the art”; one of the nations most modern schools. They will start a pediatrics program in August 2008.

He also explained that the attitude of the Dental School is to model and provide education in a manner that people get involved now and after.  They want to nurture the student to be the type of student and person that would want to return to teach, and educate them to want to donate their time and resources to the school and develop “long life colleagues”.

He mentioned that the students use life long computers where they do not need textbooks all their information is in the computer.

Also, students that apply to the college have at least four year of college, Masters and some people have PhDs.  The tuition is $30,000.00 per year and for orthodontics it’s $50,000.

Dottie thanked Dr. Harmon for attending the meeting.
