  • UNLV Wins Second Place

UNLV's Team Las Vegas wins Second Place in an international competition, the U.S. Department of Energy’s Solar Decathlon.

  • Solar Power Systems

Just next to busy Flamingo Road, near the Las Vegas Strip, UNLV’s Center for Energy Research tests out state-of-the-art solar technology. This system is the Amonix 7700, featuring a flat panel having 1080 solar cells and Fresnel lenses and a two-axis tracking system.

  • High Performance Homes

In the western region of Las Vegas Valley, Pulte Homes, UNLV’s Center for Energy Research, NV Energy, and the U.S. Department of Energy collaborated in developing a community of homes with a range of technologies that lead to reduced energy needs.

  • Concentrated Solar Power

With this concentrated photovoltaic (CPV) system, the sun is reflected off an array of mirrors onto a receiver. The dish moves constantly throughout the day to track the sun, resulting in a very high intensity solar beam on the target.
