INSTRUCTIONS FOR IMPLEMENTING A SELF-ADMINISTERED DEPARTMENTAL AND ACADEMIC UNIT FORUMS
Introduction
The videotape contains the proceedings of the Academic Integrity Faculty Forum that was held on October 2, 2007. The Forum was constructed as a 3-step process:
1. An introduction by Provost Smatresk and presentations by members of a panel of experts looking at the issue of academic integrity from specific points of view: ethical, psychological, technological, and administrative;
2. Participants’ brainstorming session in which teams of faculty addressed specific issues presented through brief scenarios, then developed and presented approaches for addressing them;
3. The panel’s responses to participants’ proposed approaches.
Note: The videotape does not include the small group deliberations.
Suggestions for Managing a Departmental Forum
1. Plan on approximately two hours for the entire process.
2. Preview the videotape ahead for content and timing.
3. Play Step # 1 – panel presentations. Stop.
4. Divide the group into small teams of 2-4 people and have each team take 1-2 of the scenarios.
5. Allow approximately 15-10 minutes for the small teams to discuss their scenarios (the instructions are included for each scenario), and to make the necessary recommendations.
6. Have each team state its issue and present its recommendations to the entire group.
7. Time permitting, have the entire group discuss issues raised in the videotape or in your Forum.
