There are 3 separate guides to gaming.unlv.edu:

The academic users guide is tailored for all researchers, from high school students to established professors.

The media/industry guide is designed to help those in the news media and casino industry find the information they need. The Center handles hundreds of queries a year, so if you are looking for something, there's a good chance it's here.

The just curious guide is a broader introduction for anyone who's interested in gaming research or who's just stumbled on this page while looking for Rat Pack photos or information about casino games.

The Center for Gaming Research is proud to serve as an Associate Sponsor for the 14th International Conference on Gambling and Risk-Taking. which is presented by the University of Nevada, Reno's Institute for the Study of Gambling and Commercial Gaming, College of Business.

The primary objectives of the conference are to contribute to the base of scientific knowledge about gambling in all its dimensions, stimulate further research and facilitate discussion and dialogue.

This important event brings together the world’s top gambling scholars to present, discuss, and debate the latest trends and findings on gambling and commercial gaming. This diverse group includes
international researchers, academics, gaming industry leaders, regulatory
and government officials, and professional gamblers. Topics will cover a broad variety of disciplines including economics, public policy, mathematics, social sciences, psychology, and treatment.

The conference is being held May 25-29, 2009 at Harrah's Lake Tahoe.

Specifically, it:

- Houses the Gaming Collection, an unparalleled repository of books, journals, government documents, corporate archives, and primary source materials;

- Digests available revenue information into the UNLV Gaming Abstract;

- Maintains a network of links and unique resources at http://gaming.unlv.edu;

- Guides student, faculty, media, industry, and public researchers;

- Assists the gaming industry through records management outreach;

- Fosters the academic study of gaming by providing fellowships and research grants;

- Sponsors special events open to the public.
