Fair News and Updates

(4/26/2006)

Project drop off is tomorrow from 2-5. If the students cannot drop off their projects, please have them make arrangements for someone else to drop them off. I also want to remind everyone to stop by the Camp Invention booth on Saturday from 9 am to 12 pm during the public viewing. All K-5 participants should stop by the booth to pick up their prizes. The best fifth grade project winner will receive a scholarship to Camp Invention. Please remember to stop by on Saturday. Please check out the website for Camp Invention www.campinvention.org. There will also be scientists present for our "Meet the Scientist". Feel free to stop and ask them questions about their displays and science in general. I look forward to seeing everyone's projects.

As a reminder, the deadline has past and after tomorrow (3/17/06) I will no longer be accepting approval forms. If you have not sent them in yet, please fax them immediately (895-3050). I am currently in the process of reviewing the projects. If you have not received a letter regarding the status of the projects, please email me (jennifer.soika@unlv.edu)

(3/10/2006)

Please remember that as you submit your students' project forms I require the following forms: Initial Project Approval (IPA) form, Approval for Submission of Project (ASP) form, and an abstract for each project. If I do not receive these forms, I will not be able to accept the projects until all forms have been submitted.

(3/07/2006)

Approval forms have started to come in. Please remember the deadline is March 12, 2006. Once again, Camp Invention will be sponsoring prizes at our fair. For those of you who are not familiar with what Camp Invention is, please visit their website and contact Annette Phillips.

In short, Camp Invention is a weeklong nonprofit summer enrichment day program of the National Inventors Hall of Fame with support from the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Camp Invention’s curriculum aligns with national and state educations standards and is taught by local teachers. The program fosters creativity, teamwork, inventive-thinking skills and science literacy.
Camp Invention was introduced to Clark County in 1999. The program will be offered at local elementary schools all throughout the valley again this summer. For more information you can visit the website www.campinvention.org or contact Annette Phillips, the Nevada Regional coordinator at 437.1754.

I hope to be receiving a lot more of the approval forms in the next few days.

It's getting close to that time. If you have all of your approval forms filled out, you can start faxing them or if you prefer, you can send them by mail. As I get them, I will be emailing the coordinators to let them know I received them. If you plan on sending them through the mail, please email me so I can keep an eye out for them. You can fax them to 895-3050 or mail it to:

Jennifer Soika
College of Sciences Advising Center

Las Vegas, NV 89154-4050

I've received some information packets via email, and if you are so inclined, you can send the approval forms that way as well. Also, please check out the "Important Dates" section. I've posted the tentative times for the fair.
