Nevada Residency - Freshman

The Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) Scholarship was created to help students attend colleges in neighboring states at a lower cost than out-of-state tuition.

Are you eligible?

You must meet the following requirements in order to apply for the scholarship.

An eligible student must:

  • Be a first-time UNLV student
  • Be a resident of one of the following states: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, or Wyoming
  • Be admitted to UNLV and enroll full time each term

In addition, freshman students and freshman transfer students (with fewer than 24 transferable credits) must:

  • Have at least a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) in the academic core, and
  • Have either:
    • A 3.25 cumulative GPA, or
    • A SAT score of 1100 (combined reading and math), or
    • An ACT score of 24 (composite)

Transfer students (with more than 24 transferable credits) must have at least a 3.0 GPA upon admission to UNLV.

How to apply.

Applying for the WUE Scholarship is a two-step process.

  1. Apply for admission to UNLV.
  2. Submit an online scholarship application.

Both applications must be submitted before the priority deadline.

Please note.

  • WUE Scholarships are available on a limited basis.
  • Once a student has attempted 130 credit hours or more, any remaining undergraduate enrollment will be calculated at the nonresident tuition rate and the WUE Scholarship will terminate.
  • Once a student has started classes at UNLV as an out-of-state resident, the student is no longer eligible for the WUE program.
  • A student who initially enrolled at UNLV under the WUE program is not eligible for reclassification as a Nevada resident unless one of the following conditions is met:
    • The student was enrolled as a regular nonresident student for at least 12 months prior to the date of the application for reclassification to resident student status.
    • The student becomes nonenrolled for the same 12-month period and meets all requirements for Nevada resident classification.
