Vice-President for Conferences Anna Graeber reported on the current conference. There were 40 registrations and 2 cancellations. She noted that RCML will be held in Las Vegas next year. Bill Speer mentioned that the hotel will be the Ameri Suites which will cost $75 a day. There will be a reception Thursday; the sessions will start Friday at 10:00 with a buffet that evening; and on Saturday, the sessions will end at 4:00 with various excursions that evening. Bill asked those present to give him proposal forms with an intent to submit. Anna called on Sheryl Maxwell to discuss the 2001 meeting in Memphis. Thank you gifts were given to Alan Zollman and Carolyn Pinchback who were finishing their terms on the Conference Committee.
Vice President for Publications Jayne Fleener mentioned that Dan Brahier edited the newsletter, Jean Schmittau edited the journal, George Pattison-Wyer is in charge of membership and Ryan Speer has been working on the web site. She called on George who reported that there are 176 members and that 28 are due to renew as of 12/97. He suggested that we think of strategies for recruitment and mentioned the idea of an Emeritus membership.
The nominations committee will be choosing people to run for president-elect, treasurer, Vice President for Conferences, and two members of the conference committee. The nominations will be completed in April, descriptions will appear in October, and the elections will occur in December.
A proposal for Emeritus Membership was presented to the group. There will be a ballot in the April Newsletter. The new form of membership will need to be approved by a two-thirds vote.
Mel Olson suggested that we think of goals for increasing membership. He said we should encourage membership from our schools, our state, and our other colleagues.
A motion to adjourn was made by Bea Babbit and seconded by David Davison.
