Conference Minutes

2007 RCML Business Meeting Minutes
March 2, 2007

Cleveland, Ohio

President Bea Babbitt welcomed all and thanked those who had helped her.

Secretary Diana Perdue presented the minutes from last year. She asked everyone to mentally add a correction in item 5 (VP for Pubs report) to thank journal editor Jean Schmittau for services rendered. There were no corrections and additions to the minutes; motion and second to approve minutes with unanimous approval.

Treasurer Dixie Metheny presented the financial report. We are in good standing financially with a balance of $7,256.74. This year’s conference registration has gone well and we have passed the break even point.

Roland Pourdavood reported that 39 active members. Membership should be renewed by the end of each year (December). A follow-up email in January will remind members to renew membership of $28. Please note that registration for conference should be paid separately from membership fee. Please check the conference program for your correct email address and let him know of any corrections.

Anne Reynolds, VP for Publication, thanked Editor Jean Schmittau and commented on the high quality and diversity of articles. There is a consistent flow of articles for review and members were encouraged to submit worthwhile articles. The backlog was corrected until the hiccup in the edition. Volumes 28 (3&4) and 29 are in the publisher’s hands and should be received quickly. There seems to be a change at the printers, but by the end of spring it should be back on track.

Michael Naylor has done a good job on the INTERSECTION newsletter with interesting, entertaining and thoughtful mathematics. Anne Reynolds thanked Michael; he has agreed to continue in that role for a little while.

Ryan Speer maintains the website. Anne Reynolds thanked him and asked members to please report glitches for immediate attention.

David Boliver, VP for Conferences, gave a hand to all involved in this conference historically. Future conferences should be pinned down, as conference 2008 fell through on preparations. Everyone was invited to Oklahoma City on 6-8 March 2008. Help from multiple institutions has enabled this conference to be put together. The three co-chairs for the 2008 conferences are Darlinda Cassel (UCO, Stacey Reeder (OU) and Julianna Utley (OSU). The theme will be “Math for All” and the dates have been cleared from conflict with the Big 12 Championship. Patrick Wachira played a DVD movie from the OK Travel and Convention Bureau. There will be a meeting at 10:20 in the Stillman Room if anyone is interested in hosting a future conference in a warmer place than Cleveland.
