2001 Annual RCML Business Meeting
Minutes
March 9, 2001
The meeting was called to order by President Mel Olson. The meeting was held at the Holiday Inn Boardwalk in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mel expressed appreciation to the UNLV faculty for the work they did in organizing this year's conference.
Secretary's report:
Dixie Methany indicated that the minutes of last year's business meeting
had been posted at the registration table since yesterday. She called
for a motion to approve the minutes. Pat Lamphere Jordan made a motion
that the minutes be approved. The motion was seconded and approved.
Mel Olson expressed appreciation to Dixie as outgoing secretary for her contribution to the organization.
Vice President for Conferences:
Judy Olson thanked retiring members to the conference committee and
introduced new members.
Judy then asked Sheryl Maxwell to share information about next year's conference in Memphis. Sheryl indicated that proposals for the 2002 conference were due June 15, 2001. She asked for suggestions for keynote speakers.
Judy then shared that there was no site yet designated for the 2003 conference. Suggestion was made for members to consider the possibility of hosting a conference in conjunction with another conference, specifically the School Science and Mathematics Association, which is considering moving to a Spring date for their annual conference. Discussion occurred around the following points:

Sue Brown moved approval of the budget. The motion was seconded and approved.
Vice President for Publications:
Bea Babbitt reported on recent conversation with Focus Editor, Jean
Schmittau. Manuscripts are coming in steadily. Special issues
are in preparation:
President then offered thanks to the following people:

Mel gave special thanks to Bea Babbitt and Dan Brahier on behalf of RCML
Membership:
George Pattison reported there are now 175 members.
President asked if there was any old business.
The following information was shared regarding Focus:
Issue 3 & 4 should arrive soon
The journal is in the best condition it has been in a long time in
respect to timely publication of issues.
New business:
Reminder that we are still looking for a location for the 2003 Conference,
although conference committee has approached members from Arizona to consider
hosting the conference in 2003.
A special thanks to Bill Speer for his work for RCML.
Virginia Usnick was introduced as the in-coming president.
She then introduced the following newly elected personnel:
VP for Publications: Dan Brahier, who has agreed to continue as newsletter
editor for the coming year
Secretary: Anne Reynolds
Conference Committee: Roland Pourdavood, Winifed Mallam
Ginny indicated that elections would need to be held for the following
positions:

Treasurer
The in-coming president then presented a token of our appreciation to out-going president: Mel Olson.
Announcements:
As there was no other business the meeting closed with a video presentation of Memphis, the host city for the 2002 conference.
