Welcome to the Southern Nevada Returned Volunteers (SONEPCA) website. We are a group returned volunteers living in the Greater Las Vegas area who occasionally get together to share international cuisine and talk about our Peace Corps and travel experiences. We are dedicated to the 3rd goal of Peace Corps, to bring the world back home and to foster understanding of world cultures here in the U.S.

 

Calendar of Events

Habitat for Humanity – We have a tentative date set for our group to go out April 26th starting at 8am.  Contact Rebecca Kramer at benandrebecca@hotmail.com if you are interested, or let her know at our next meeting.  We will know by then where the house will be.  Please remember to wear sturdy shoes and bring a lunch. 

 

Red Rock Canyon Clean Up – We are in the process of choosing a trail to adopt.  Contact Rebecca Kramer at benandrebecca@hotmail.com if you want to get involved.  

 

T-Shirts For Sale!

A limited number of SONEPCA t-shirts are on sale.  T-shirts are available in sizes medium, large and extra-large and cost $10.  These shirts will be great for presentations, Peace Corps Day, or at group events.  Contact Ted, our new President, to purchase a shirt at tedhall@intermind.net 

 

Upcoming Activities

April 1st at 3pm is our next meeting at Lied Library 833 Las Vegas Blvd South off of 95.  Come join us for a lively meeting, sharing ideas for service projects, and dinner to follow.  Subsequent meeting will be held the first Saturday of June, August, October and December.

 

Speakers Bureau

We have had several requests for RPCVs to speak at Las Vegas area schools.  We would like to schedule as many speeches as possible around the end of this month, in celebration of the founding of the Peace Corps 3/1/61.

 

Please contact Paul Woicicki at woicicki@yahoo.com if you have time to make a presentation to young people who want to hear about your adventure.  We have schools all around the valley that have made requests, we are surely able to find one close to you.  Thanks for your dedication to the 3rd goal of Peace Corps!

 

Cycle of Support

We are interested in distributing Peace Corps literature and information, and selling Peace Corps related items at local functions.  Such events include cultural fairs, dances, farmers markets, etc.  If you know of any such function that we could participate in, please contact us at bob_kayf@hotmail.com

 

RPCV Profiles

We are in the process of collecting profiles of our SONEPCA members to post here on the website.  There are applicants out there who would most appreciate contacting RPCVs and finding out more about their experiences.  This is a work on progress. Please bring your information, including name, country served, year, and technical background (and a picture if you have one) to our next meeting.
