Japan
As the economic powerhouse in the Pacific Rim, Japan
has created an indelible reputation based on its great production capacity
and export of technologically advanced items. This island nation's image
is one of modern and fast-paced society. However, upon deeper investigation,
one discovers that Japan is truly a land of contrasts and nowhere is this
more evident than in its capital, Tokyo. The combination of the opportunity
to explore traditional Japanese culture, the conveniences of a modern,
technologically advanced society, and a relatively high level of safety
in a large urban city make Tokyo an exciting place in which to live and
study Japan and its people. The program at Sophia University provides students
with the opportunity to attain both an academic and cultural appreciation
of Japanese society, whether they decide to focus on the language, economic
development, or traditional culture.
The Japan Program is offered in cooperation with
Council for International Exchange (CIEE). Students may view information
about the program from the CIEE
website. Please contact the Office of International Programs for more
information.
