1. Read the brochure and select schools that interest you.
2. Research exchange options by reviewing campus catalogs and public relations materials. Most catalogs are on the internet or can be reviewed in the Office of International Programs.
3. Consult the Office of International Programs (your NSE office) and your academic advisor to identify appropriate exchange options.
4. Discuss NSE participation with family, friends, and former exchange participants.
5. If you are a financial aid recipient, or would like to be, make an appointment with Christopher Stevens, Financial Aid Counselor, UNLV Student Financial Services.
6. Review personal finances and financial aid eligibility to decide if exchange is a viable option.
7. Turn in all necessary documentation to Student Financial Services by the deadlines. It may be advisable to list each potential exchange site on your FAFSA. If you are placed on Plan A, you may need to apply for financial aid through your host school.
8. Complete UNLV’s NSE application. You may select up to 5 schools as possible exchange sites. List schools in the order of preference, i.e. your 1st choice for exchange on line 1.
9. Return the NSE application along with the $100 non-refundable application fee to the Office of International Programs.
10. Please note: Many schools require that NSE participants have medical insurance for the duration of their exchange. UNLV highly recommends that all students obtain medial insurance for the duration of any exchange.
1. By April 1, visit the Office of International Programs to read and sign your placement acceptance card and a demographic survey. You will not start receiving information until the host school has received your acceptance card.
2. Read all information sent to you by the host coordinator and school. You must meet all specified deadlines.
3. Complete and return the host campus application for on-campus housing. Again, it is very important to meet the deadlines in order to be considered for housing.
4. Forward official transcript, health records and any other required documentation.
5. Meet with your advisor to discuss course selection, transferring credits, and satisfying degree requirements.
6. Check with Student Financial Services to make sure your file is complete. Verify financial aid disbursement dates.
7. Complete registration materials for the host campus.
8. Notify both UNLV International Programs and the NSE coordinator at your host school any time you change your address, including returning home for the summer. If we cannot contact you, we cannot help you.
9. Pay tuition and fees to the appropriate campus (UNLV if Plan B, Host campus if Plan A) by stated deadlines.
10. If at any point you decide you will not be able to complete your exchange, you must contact the UNLV Office of International Programs immediately. If you decide not to participate, you must cancel your placement in writing.
1. Check-in with your host coordinator when you arrive on campus.
2. Notify UNLV International Programs and your host coordinator of your new address and phone number.
3. Attend NSE orientation sessions.
4. Verify that your registration is complete and your fees are paid.
5. If at any point you decide to leave your host school or cancel your exchange, you must notify both your host school and UNLV.
6. Contact your host coordinator or the UNLV Office of International Programs if you have any questions.
1. Request transcripts from your host campus to be send to UNLV Registrar, 4505 Maryland Pkwy, Las Vegas, NV 89154.
2. Contact UNLV Student Financial Services if you are a financial aid student. Apply for financial aid or provide any documentation you need to continue receiving aid.
3. Register for classes at UNLV.
4. Apply for on-campus housing or make other arrangements for housing.
5. Contact UNLV International Programs with any changes of address.
6. Verify that the Registrar’s Office has your current address.
7. Contact the UNLV Office of International Programs when you return. You will be asked to evaluate your exchange experience. If you are interested, you may also sign up for our peer- counseling program. With your written permission, the Office of International Programs will provide your name and phone number to potential NSE students who would like to talk to you about your experience.
8. Meet with your advisor to discuss transfer of credit and remaining degree requirements.
