Baggage Allowance Policy

Due to the recent hike in fuel prices, many airlines are charging additional fees for checked baggage.

Effective July 1st 2008, UNLV will reimburse on domestic travel a maximum of one checked bag, in addition to the carry-on policy of the airlines, plus personal items such as briefcases, laptops & purses.

UNLV will reimburse on foreign and domestic travel of four consecutive nights or longer a maximum of two checked bags, in addition to the carry-on policy of the airlines, plus personal items such as briefcases, laptops & purses.

Domestic: Most airlines allow one free bag not to exceed 50 pounds or larger than 62 linear inches.

International: Most airlines have implemented changes in the baggage weight allowance for coach class for international travel. The free coach class baggage allowance is 50 pounds per paying passenger. Passengers in coach class may take more than 50 pounds, but for an additional fee.

Original receipts including method of payment must be submitted with the completed travel document requesting reimbursement.

Request for reimbursement beyond this policy will require the approval of a Dean, VP or Provost with specific justification of additional baggage prior to traveling.

The charts contained within the baggage fact sheet are intended to protect the traveler with knowledge of fee enforcement and to provide information as known at the publishing date.   Unless otherwise specified, new airline checked bag policy applies to travel commencing May 5, 2008. The fact sheet shows the fee charged or if an exception is allowed by the carriers. As of May 28, 2008, the following is the most up-to-date list of airlines that have instituted a fee for a checked bag.
