Reid Announces Grant for New Masters Degrees Program at UNLV
Washington, D.C. – Today, Senator Harry Reid of Nevada announced a grant from the Department of Homeland Security to fund the Masters Degree program at the Greenspun School of Public Affairs on the campus of the University of Nevada Las Vegas. $442,776 will be awarded to the UNLV Department of Public Administration to support the Masters of Science Degree in Crisis and Emergency Management. The money will come from the Department of Homeland Security’s “Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Career Development Grant program,” a program expressly designed to advance careers in the Homeland Security field.
“I’m really glad to see that the Homeland Security Department has awarded UNLV this grant,” said Reid. “This is something I’ve worked really hard for. Already at UNLV we have some of the best Hotel Administration, Engineering, and Fine Arts programs in the country. Now, with this program, we can work to expand that prestige into other areas.”
The Department of Public Administration wants to thank the Institute for Security Studies for their critical support on the grant.
Course Limits
Beginning Fall 2006, MPA students will be limited to a maximum of three (3) one credit courses toward the MPA degree. Credits earned in the Certificate Program are included in these limits. (MPA students who have completed up to six (6) one credit courses by the end of Summer session 2006 may have them applied to the MPA degree.)
