HOW TO REGISTER FOR INTERNSHIP CREDITS

  1. Obtain an “Internship Application” form from the School’s main office, or download the Adobe Acrobat form from the school’s website.  Fill out both sides of the application completely, including the internship contact information, and contact the internship organization for an interview.  You must arrange for the interview and negotiate your duties and the days and times you wish to intern.
  2. Once your application includes a work-place supervisor’s signature, you may submit it to the instructor you wish to oversee your internship (they are listed on the previous page).  Approval to take an internship will be at your instructor’s discretion.
  3. Have your fully completed internship application signed by the School’s Internship Coordinator and submit your signed application to the school’s Administrative Assistant to obtain the registration number
  4. You may register for 1 credit for each internship.  You may take up to three internships during your college tenure. You may take only one internship during any semester or summer.

GRADING PROCEDURE

  1. You must work a minimum of 120 hours per internship, regardless of semester (about 10 hours per week for 12 weeks in the fall and spring; summer hours must also total 120, the weekly distribution of those hours is arranged by you and your instructor).  Should you miss a shift, it is your responsibility to make up those hours.
  2. All interns in any academic term will meet as a group with the Internship Coordinator weekly during the term.  These meeting are held to discuss, as a group, problems and challenges of the professional work-place; and to hear from guest speakers from internship-providing organizations about expectations of and potential experiences for interns.
  3. During mid-semester, your instructor will contact your internship supervisor to check on your progress.  If there are any problems, your instructor will set up a meeting to discuss them.
  4. Evaluation of your internship will be directed by your instructor.  You may be required to submit any work-product, a 4-5 page final paper, or e-mail reports describing your internship experience.  Your instructor will discuss what is required of you before you start your internship.
  5. Your instructor will contact your internship supervisor for a final evaluation report during the last week of the semester.  Your grade of Satisfactory of Fail (S/F) will be based on that report and materials your instructor requires you to submit as evidence of your internship work.
  6. If, by the end of the semester, you have not completed the required 120 hours, or if you have not turned in the required materials, you will receive an Incomplete (I).  Only after the hours have been achieved or required work has been turned in will the Incomplete be replaced with a Satisfactory.  Required work or hours must be completed before the end of the following semester.
