One of the most important services the GPSA offers for UNLV graduate & professional students is the allocation of funds for graduate & professional research. This service is intended to support projects which directly affect a student's degree program as well as make a contribution to the scholar's field. The GPSA does not provide funding for student organizations. Please contact the Student Activities Funding Board for information regarding this type of funding @ 895-2508.

The GPSA has limited funds for each grant cycle, and there is no guarantee that a student's application will be awarded a partial or whole award. Students who make efforts to reduce their budgets by seeking department funds, sharing transportation and accommodation costs, and using university equipment will be prioritized.

Applicants must understand that this is a competitive application process. Students submitting funding requests should stringently follow the application components to ensure an equitable footing. Incomplete or erroneously compiled applications will automatically be disqualified from the request pool.

Notification letters for ALL grant applications, both regular cycle and emergency, will be sent out on the first Monday of each month. No information regarding their status is available before that date. We thank you in advance for your patience!

For research or conference travel during the academic year, application deadlines are as follows:

Emergency Funding

Emergency funding is available for those students who are accepted to present at a conference after the grant application deadline for the semester of travel has passed. Also, if conference dates are between the fall and spring semesters, i.e., the winter intersession, students qualify as an emergency applicant.

Emergency grants applications must be turned into the GPSA Office, Lied Library, by the 20th of each month, at which time the application will be reviewed.

Please note: Funds for summer 2008 emergency grants have been depleted.

A stipulation in receiving a GPSA grant is that all recipients must present in the upcoming Graduate & Professional Student Research Forum. Next year’s event is to be held March 28, 2009.
