The
goals of scholarship in the Landscape Architecture and Planning
Program are:
•
To provide planning and design assistance – both urban
and rural - to the state of Nevada.
• To contribute to the base of knowledge regarding
planning and design in the Intermountain West.
• To promote a sense of place grounded in Nevada’s
past while looking to its future, an appreciation of its
natural environment and a new ethic that defines a more
appropriate way of living in its arid climates.
• To provide opportunities for student and faculty
development in planning and design disciplines.
• To utilize the expertise of UNLV’s other research
organizations to provide multidisciplinary, research-based
solutions to Nevada’s planning and design issues.
Landscape architecture and planning contribute to local
and regional character and quality of life when cultural
and natural features, and community identity are preserved
and emphasized. Nevada’s diverse natural landscapes,
many cultures, and rapidly growing population offer a singular
opportunity for policy development, collaborative research,
community service, and education. These efforts work together
to provide a sense of place grounded the state’s past;
to foster a greater appreciation for our natural environment;
and to promote a new ethic that defines a more appropriate
way of living in the arid Intermountain West.
Scholarship
in the Program addresses the following four focus areas:
Community Outreach, Sponsored Research, Internships, and
Land-Based Policy.
